2006 Suburu WRX Install

Postby KPierson » Sat Jan 17, 2009 12:06 am

This was a pretty straight forward install - one of the easier ones I've done lately.

The wiring broke down like this:

Ground (KPtech black wire) - to chassis by fuse box
IGN (KPtech yellow wire) - to thick black wire in ignition harness (could also be green wire on other side of connector)
Tach (KPtech blue wire) - to pink wire at ECU under passenger carpet.

The 3mm super bright green LED was mounted in the A-pillar by drilling a 7/64" hole.

I wired-tied the module to a bundle under the drivers dash. This location made it simple to wire everything up:

This WRX already had some aftermarket wiring so I utilized a ground that had been added. Had that ground not been there I would have grounded the module to that bolt anyway so it worked out really well:

The igntion wire was pretty easy to find - it was a thick black wire going to the ignition cylinder. There is a blue connector and on the other side of the connector the wire is green - either location would work:

We added a NO pushbutton for programming. One side of the button was soldered to the modules ground and the other side of the button was soldered to the KPtech orange wire. Sorry, but no picture of the button used. We didn't even mount the button, we just coiled it up and left it tucked behind the storage compartment for easy access should the owner decide to reprogram the setpoint. The black and red twisted wire is the wiring for the pushbutton:

The last thing to do was grab the RPM signal. We decided to use a fuel injector wire and the service manual indicated that all four injector wires were pink in color (pink, pink/black, pink/green and pink/blue I believe). We went with fuel injector #1 which was the straight pink wire:
